Little green tax: Ireland introduces a tax on plastic carrier bags today that could net €180 million a year in tax revenue. Or, the Irish government hopes, nothing at all.

A €0.15 increase in the price per plastic bag for supermarket customers, the tax is intended to encourage a switch to 'green' canvas bags. [Irish Times]; [Sunday Business Post].

In April, Taiwan bans plastic bags completely. [Eyp News].
